Alec Cartio

Alec Cartio AKA Alexander Cartio, is an Iranian music video and Commercial director best known for his revolutionary music video work that improved and changed the entire Iranian Music video business outside and Inside the country. His work has earned him the title of the most successful and famous Iranian music video Director of all time. He has directed music videos for almost every Iranian super star residing in exile. In a 10-year career, he has also worked with such American artists as FloRida, Wu tang Clan, Brian McKnight, Pras Michel and many more.

Early life

Alec Cartio was born Alireza Sabahi in Tehran, Iran to Iranian/Turkish parents on September 14 1976. His Father, Motaleb Sabahi was an electrical engineer involved in Airplanes and his mother Hajar Bazm was a hairstylist. His Great grandfather was a Russian Immigrant who fled the communist Soviet Union to Iran and settled down in Tehran in the early 1930's. He Married an Iranian woman and the couple gave birth to their first child, a girl whom they named Khoshgadam, Alec's grandmother and Hajar's Mother. Cartio's younger brother, Cameron Cartio is a well known Iranian recording artist.

He spent his childhood in Tehran where he witnessed the 1978 Islamic revolution and the Iran/Iraq war which forced his family to leave the country in 1986 and immigrate to Sweden as political refugees. It was in Sweden where Cartio first got introduced to music which led the path to a 22-year career in the entertainment business that still continues in present time.

Career

At 12 he started playing the Piano and at 14 he started a basement Synthesizer band inspired by the great French Electronic music composer Jean Michel Jarre whom Cartio recognizes as his single greatest inspiration to become an artist. The band later reinvented itself as a 90's boyband, released 3-singles and had an 8 year run with modest success in the scandinavian music scene.

At 23, he changed his career path and travelled to the Unites States to study Theatre arts and Cinmea. 3 years later, frustrated with the never-evolving iranian music video indutry, he set himself out to change and improve the art by bringing in western style filmmaking with Rich and glossy cinematography and modern concepts which often collided with the cultural guide frames of Iranian popular music and its players, but neverthelss his methods were very effective and the young generation embraced his work with open arms, later naming him the revolutionzer of the Iranian music video industry. Cartio's work has inspired the new generation of Iranian directors to be bold and strive to experiment with their art and ideas without boundaries.

At 30, he took the step towards Hollywood Cinema fullfilling a long time dream and Directed his first movie called Convincing Clooney.
